Wool Jackets: In Your Best Interest
When it’s time to dressing to keep warm, not all materials are equal to the task of helping you out. Cotton, unless very thick, is too light and breathable to provide much warmth in the winter. Many other fabrics such as silk and linen are also far too light and are best kept for summer clothing.
For winter wear animals have the solution. The thick coat they put on naturally can also benefit us in the winter. Sheep’s wool is warm enough to keep sheep warm that spend most if not all of their time out in the freezing weather. It is also excellent for keeping us warm when we choose wool clothing.
Wool works wonderfully in all types of clothing. You can find wool socks and long underwear, sweaters, slacks and suits, all of which will help to keep you warm. Wool is especially suitable for outerwear.
Wool jackets are usually made from a thick and coarse type of wool. This wool makes a beautiful weave and provides a great deal of warmth. It keeps in the body’s warmth while still allowing breathability. Another reason it works so well on outerwear is that it can easily become wet. Wool absorbs water like other materials such as cotton. Unlike cotton, however, it does not become very heavy and it will not make you cold when it is wet.
Wool coats and wool jackets should be a part of every wardrobe. Besides just keeping you warm, they look great, too! You can find wool jackets and coats in all different styles. Some are great for cool weather and others work well in freezing temperatures.
Wool jackets are very stylish. Wool fibers are very easily dyed. This means your wool coat or jacket can come in very bright and bold colors. A fitted, red, wool, double breasted jacket is a stylish addition to your closet and says more than just, “I want to stay warm”. It also says, “I have fashion sense and am not afraid of color!”
Some types of wool jacket are perfect for those who work in a business environment that requires them to dress nicely every day. A wool jacket over your dress shirt, for both men and women looks great and shows your serious side.
Wool is wonderful because it does not attract odors (or the bacteria that bring them) easily. It does not have to be washed as often as other textiles.
With so many benefits to wool and almost the only negative being the inconvenience of dry cleaning, it is in everyone’s best interest to have a wool coat or jacket or two. It is a hardy material that will last for years giving you winter after winter of warmth.
